Anything You Can Do, I Can Do Better

So my sister left for school last night...she's probably still somewhere in the skies right now. I just want to say I love her so much, and I'm proud of her strength and will power. The last thing she whispered in my ear before heading towards the gate was to find myself a job already, which made be laugh despite my watery eyes.

It is about time...that I get a job. I've been unemployed since June...I'm just not sure about what I really want...I'm not sure where to start, or where to look...(this is your queue to spill encouraging and full-of-advice comments :P )

My dad thinks I should spend all this free time writing. "It's what you like doing, isn't it? And you've got all this time...use it before it's too late." Okay dad. I'll just have to grow inspiration seeds outside my window sill and everything'll be dandy.

We went to the carboot sale at AUK this morning. I loved the atmosphere...it was so...I don't know...get-togethery! The weather was beautiful, the spirit was fun, and there were some cool stuff on sale. We should definately have more activities like this in Kuwait. Way to go Marketing Club (organizers)!

Here's a GAP ad I really love. I love these two (Claire Danes and Patrick Wilson.)

Question: How many times did I say "love" in this post?

needless to say that i've been through this before, but i was a very bad case :D nearly two months of unemployment drive me nuts :p
i agree with your dad, you have to use this time as much as you can, but at the same time you should start applying for jobs, just drop/email your CV every where you can think of and wait for a call :D
don't worry it will work out just fine ;) (go read your comments on my posts about the whole post-graduation mania just imagine you were writing them to your self :p)

i heard that the AUK event was great, and my sis is one of the marketing club members i'll tell her that people said good things about their organization ;)

There are different types of jobs out there. You just need to figure out the "type" of job you're looking for. For instance, there are some people who leave university and decide they want a job in which they never have to read a book again. They pick an administrative job in a government sector. There are others who think "it'll be temporary, I don't mind the extra hours, but I'm looking for extra cash,"--they get into Banking.

So my advice for you is the following:

1) Consider your life 20 years from now. What will you be doing? Obviously if you see yourself as a KU professor of Eng. Lit. then "banker" doesn't seem like a beneficial job description.

2) Once you figure out what you will be doing in the long run, determine the duration of your initial job and its crucial lineaments. In other words, are you looking for short duration, hectic hours and extra cash? Or longer duration, but less hours, to give you time to do things in the evenings to bolster your CV? Or are you looking for a longer duration with possible experience points (such as gaining teaching experience as prelude to your PhD)?

3) Then you apply. Construct a spiffy CV and email/mail/drop it everywhere relating to your job decision. Don't, and I repeat, don't drop it somewhere that goes against your professional choice because it'll be very hard to return to your original path. Also, interviewers like to see dedication on people's job CVs, in other words, quitting, changing jobs, or getting sacked are NOT elements to sprinkle on your CV.

Inshalla this helped. I'll run back to my paper now :* Good luck! Make our face white!

First of all, don't listen to Nada, she's short!
I think you should get a job as a princess... OMG! how flirty was that!! :p

We have lots of new colleges opening here and they have openings for English TAs. Also consider working in PR like in a bank or somewhere private. In PR you get a chance to do something creative at least, and it pays well... very well...

Don't ever consider working for the government... I REPEAT Don't ever consider working for the government... I REPEAT Don't ever consider working for the government...

I missed the AUK carboot sale! cuz I thought it was gonna be this weekend :s

Nada: you r a total geek :p

F: 5 times including the question, its not too much at all.. your just in a loving mood, nothing wrong with that :)

Job advice, what Nada said.. but to sum it up, look for something that you like. You will be happy when you do that.
And don't feel bad about this idle time after college, you won't get it back... make sure u (it7allileena) travel sometime
Best of luck :)
